Lab Testing Assistance in China | Sample Collection & Coordination | G&D

Lab Testing Assistance in China with independent sample collection and third-party laboratory coordination. G&D helps select, document and dispatch samples to the designated laboratory and follows up the testing process.

Lab Testing Assistance in China

Independent sample collection and third-party laboratory testing coordination in China, helping buyers maintain better control over which samples are tested and how they are submitted to the laboratory.
Product inspection can verify many visible and functional characteristics, but some requirements cannot be confirmed through visual inspection or basic on-site checks. Material composition, chemical properties, safety requirements and certain physical or performance characteristics may require testing by a qualified laboratory.
G&D provides Lab Testing Assistance in China. We can independently select and document samples, arrange their dispatch to the designated laboratory, coordinate the testing process and follow up on the laboratory report.
The laboratory performs the testing and issues the test results. G&D does not act as the testing laboratory.
G&D service fee starts from USD 160 per man-day. Laboratory testing fees, courier charges and other third-party costs are quoted separately.

What Is Lab Testing Assistance?

Lab Testing Assistance connects independent sample handling with third-party laboratory testing.
Depending on your requirements, G&D can assist with:
  • Confirming the required sample quantity and sampling instructions
  • Independently selecting samples from the specified production or shipment batch
  • Recording the sample source and identification
  • Photographing and documenting selected samples
  • Sealing or identifying samples where appropriate
  • Packing samples for dispatch
  • Arranging shipment to the designated laboratory

The actual testing methods, test results and laboratory report remain the responsibility of the laboratory performing the tests.

When Should You Arrange Laboratory Testing?

Laboratory testing may be appropriate when a requirement cannot be reliably verified through visual inspection or ordinary on-site product checks.
Typical situations include:
  • Material composition needs to be verified.
  • Chemical substances or restricted substances need to be tested.
  • Physical or mechanical properties require controlled testing.
  • Product safety characteristics require laboratory evaluation.
  • Performance requirements require specialized equipment.
  • Durability or reliability needs to be evaluated using defined test methods.
  • A buyer requires a specific laboratory test report.
  • A customer or market requires testing against a specified standard.
  • There is uncertainty about a supplier-provided test report.
  • You want independently selected samples sent for testing.
  • A product inspection identifies an issue that requires further laboratory analysis.
The appropriate laboratory and test method depend on the product, destination market, applicable requirements and purpose of the test.

What G&D Can Assist With

Sampling Requirements

Before samples are collected, we can help confirm practical sampling information such as:
  • Product or SKU
  • Sample quantity
  • Required sample condition
  • Batch or production lot
  • Sampling location
  • Laboratory destination
  • Identification requirements
  • Packing requirements
  • Buyer instructions
The testing laboratory or buyer should determine the required sample quantity and test method where technical testing requirements are involved.

Independent Sample Selection

Where required, a G&D inspector can visit the factory or warehouse and independently select samples from the specified production, finished-goods or shipment batch.
This reduces reliance on samples selected solely by the supplier.
The sampling method depends on the buyer's instructions, the product, available stock and any requirements specified by the laboratory.

Sample Identification & Documentation

Selected samples can be documented with relevant information where available, such as:
  • Product name
  • SKU or item number
  • Quantity
  • Batch or lot information
  • Production information
  • Carton identification
  • Sampling location
  • Sampling date
  • Photos of the sampling process
  • Photos of selected samples
Where appropriate, samples may also be marked, sealed or otherwise identified before dispatch.

Packing & Dispatch

After selection, samples can be prepared for shipment to the designated laboratory.
Depending on the arrangement, G&D can assist with:
  • Sample packing
  • Identification
  • Shipping information
  • Courier coordination
  • Dispatch documentation
  • Tracking information
Courier charges and any special packing costs are separate unless specifically included in the quotation.

Laboratory Coordination

G&D can communicate available product and testing information to the designated laboratory and help coordinate the practical testing process.
This may include:
  • Providing sample information
  • Forwarding buyer instructions
  • Confirming receipt of samples
  • Following up testing status
  • Communicating practical questions between the buyer and laboratory
  • Following up the expected report
Technical decisions regarding testing standards, methods, results and conclusions remain with the laboratory and buyer as applicable.

Laboratory Report Follow-Up

Once testing is completed, we can follow up with the laboratory and forward the available test report or results to the buyer.
G&D does not alter, reinterpret or replace the laboratory's official test results.

Why Independent Sample Collection Matters

A laboratory result applies to the sample that was actually tested.
For this reason, where the sample came from can be just as important as how it was tested.
When a supplier selects and sends the sample independently, the buyer may have limited visibility into whether that sample came from:
  • Actual mass production
  • The specified production batch
  • Finished goods prepared for shipment
  • A specially prepared sample
  • Another batch or production period
Independent sample selection provides additional traceability by documenting where and how the sample was selected.
However, independent sampling does not by itself prove that a tested sample represents every unit in the production batch.
For buyers who only require independent sample selection without laboratory coordination, see our Sample Picking Service in China.

What Types of Testing May Require a Laboratory?

The exact testing scope depends on the product and applicable requirements.

Chemical & Material Testing

Depending on the product, laboratory analysis may be used to evaluate:
  • Material composition
  • Restricted substances
  • Chemical content
  • Coating or material properties
  • Other specified chemical requirements

Physical & Mechanical Testing

Specialized laboratory equipment may be required for characteristics such as:
  • Strength
  • Tensile performance
  • Compression
  • Impact resistance
  • Abrasion
  • Dimensional stability
  • Other physical or mechanical properties

Product Safety Testing

Certain products may require specialized safety testing according to defined standards or buyer requirements.
The appropriate testing scope depends on the product category and applicable requirements.

Performance Testing

Laboratory testing may be appropriate where product performance needs to be evaluated under controlled conditions or according to a defined method.

Durability & Reliability Testing

Some products may require repeated-cycle, endurance, aging or other controlled testing that cannot be reliably performed during a normal factory inspection.

Regulatory or Compliance-Related Testing

Where a buyer needs testing against a particular regulatory requirement or standard, the appropriate laboratory and test method should be selected according to the product and target market.
G&D can assist with coordination, but we do not determine legal compliance on behalf of the buyer or laboratory.

Lab Testing Assistance vs Product Inspection

Product inspection and laboratory testing answer different quality-control questions.

Product Inspection

A product inspection typically checks characteristics that can be evaluated at the factory using agreed inspection methods, such as:
  • Quantity
  • Workmanship
  • Appearance
  • Dimensions
  • Basic function
  • Accessories
  • Labels
  • Packaging
  • Specifications that can reasonably be checked on site

Laboratory Testing

Laboratory testing is used when a characteristic requires specialized equipment, controlled test conditions, analytical methods or a defined laboratory procedure.
Examples may include chemical composition, restricted substances, certain material properties, specialized safety tests and some physical or performance requirements.
A product can therefore pass a visual product inspection while still requiring laboratory testing for characteristics that cannot be verified on site.
The two services are complementary rather than interchangeable.

Lab Testing Assistance vs Sample Picking

These two services are closely related but have different scopes.

Sample Picking

The main purpose is to independently select and document samples.
The key question is:
Where did this sample come from?
The service can end after the selected samples are packed and dispatched to the buyer, laboratory or another destination.

Lab Testing Assistance

The scope continues beyond sample selection.
The key question is:
How can the selected sample be submitted to the appropriate laboratory and the testing process coordinated?
Lab Testing Assistance may therefore include Sample Picking as part of the overall process.
If you only need independent sample selection and dispatch, our Sample Picking Service may be sufficient.

Who Performs the Laboratory Testing?

The actual laboratory testing is performed by the third-party laboratory selected for the project.
Depending on the buyer's requirements, this may be:
  • A laboratory nominated by the buyer
  • A laboratory required by the buyer's customer
  • An independent third-party laboratory
  • A laboratory selected according to the required testing scope
Where accreditation is required, the buyer should confirm that the selected laboratory's accreditation and scope are appropriate for the specific test method or standard.
G&D's role is to assist with sample collection, traceability, dispatch and coordination.
We do not issue the laboratory test report and do not represent ourselves as the laboratory performing the test.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does G&D have its own laboratory?

No.
G&D provides independent sample collection and laboratory testing coordination. The actual testing is performed by the third-party laboratory selected for the project.

Can you select the test samples directly from the factory?

Yes, where this is included in the agreed scope.
Our inspector can independently select samples from the agreed production, finished-goods or warehouse batch and document the sampling process.

Why shouldn't I simply ask the supplier to send samples to the laboratory?

You can.
Supplier-selected samples may be appropriate in some situations. Independent sample selection is useful when you want additional visibility and traceability regarding where the tested samples came from.

Can you arrange testing with SGS, Intertek or another laboratory?

Testing can be coordinated with the buyer's designated laboratory or another suitable third-party laboratory, subject to the laboratory accepting the requested testing project and samples.
The laboratory's testing scope, quotation, availability and accreditation should be confirmed for the specific requirement.

Can you tell me which tests my product legally requires?

We can help communicate your product information and testing requirements to the laboratory, but G&D does not provide legal or regulatory certification advice.
The applicable requirements depend on factors such as the product, materials, intended use and destination market.

Does passing a laboratory test mean the whole shipment complies?

Not necessarily.
The laboratory result relates to the sample tested and the tests performed. Whether that result can be applied more broadly depends on the sampling method, production consistency, applicable requirements and other factors.

Can Lab Testing Assistance be combined with a product inspection?

Yes.
For example, samples may be independently selected during an inspection and then dispatched to a laboratory for tests that cannot be performed reliably on site.
The inspection findings and laboratory results provide different types of information.

What happens if the product fails the laboratory test?

The laboratory report should identify the relevant test result according to its testing scope.
The buyer can then discuss corrective action with the supplier and decide whether revised samples, retesting, production changes or other action is required.

How much does Lab Testing Assistance cost?

G&D's service fee starts from USD 160 per man-day.
Laboratory testing fees, courier charges and other third-party costs are separate and depend on the specific project.
