Sofa Supplier Filled Cushions with Cardboard: A Real Case of How We Protected Our Client
A Chile importer received sofas filled with cardboard. With another container in production and 50% deposit paid, he contacted us for urgent help. Here’s how we resolved both shipments.
One of our clients from Chile is relatively new to importing from China. He found a supplier with very competitive prices and placed two container orders for sofas.
When the first container arrived, he opened the packages and was shocked. Many sofa cushions were filled with cardboard and waste materials instead of proper foam. To make matters worse, the second container was already in production, and he had already paid 50% deposit. Canceling at that point would have been very expensive.
Feeling stressed, he reached out to us through a friend’s recommendation.
We had a long conversation to understand the full situation. It wasn’t necessarily that the factory was trying to cheat him. The price was quite low, so the factory probably assumed he wanted the cheapest possible version and used lower-grade materials. The communication between them hadn’t been detailed enough.
We worked together on a practical plan. We contacted the factory on his behalf with clear photo evidence and negotiated compensation for the first container. At the same time, we arranged urgent on-site inspections for the second container — including During Production Check, Final Random Inspection, and Container Loading Supervision.
Our inspector went to the factory to monitor the materials and packing process.
In the end, both issues were resolved without major losses. The client received reasonable compensation for the first shipment, and the second container arrived with proper foam and acceptable quality. He was very relieved.
Since then, knowing he doesn’t have much experience yet, he has asked us to help review all new suppliers and handle inspections for his future orders. So far, he hasn’t encountered any similar serious problems again.
