Nitrile Glove Pinholes and Breakage Issue: When a Small Hole Changes the Whole Product

Before one disposable nitrile glove inspection, the buyer asked us to pay close attention to pinholes and breakage.
That request made sense. A nitrile glove can look clean, well packed and properly shaped, but still have a tiny hole that is hard to see by eye. For the end user, that small hole means the glove no longer does its job.

The Problem Was Not Obvious from Appearance

During the visual check, many gloves looked normal.
The color was consistent enough. The cuffs looked complete. The gloves were folded and packed in the box as expected. A quick look did not show obvious tearing.
The issue appeared when selected gloves were checked for leakage.
A glove was taken from the sample, inflated with air, then immersed in water. When small bubbles came out from one area, the problem became clear: the glove had a pinhole or tiny break.
This is a very practical on-site check. The defect may be too small to see directly, but air escaping through water makes it visible.

Why Pinholes Matter for Disposable Gloves

Disposable nitrile gloves are used as a barrier.
If a glove has a hole, the user may not notice it before wearing. The glove still looks like a glove. It can still be pulled onto the hand. It may even pass a quick visual check.
But once the glove is used, the barrier is already broken.
For importers, this kind of defect can lead to direct complaints: gloves leaking, tearing during use, or not giving the protection customers expected. In some markets, customers may not describe it technically. They may simply say the gloves are “bad quality” or “break too easily.”
The problem is small in size, but serious in function.

How the Air-and-Water Check Works

The quick check is simple.
The selected glove is filled with air and held closed at the cuff. Then the glove is placed into water. If air bubbles come out from the fingers, palm, cuff area or side seam area, there is likely a pinhole or break.
The location of the bubbles should be recorded.
This does not replace formal laboratory testing when a buyer requires a certified test result. But during a shipment inspection, it is a useful way to screen for obvious leakage problems in selected samples.
From our experience, this kind of check is valuable because it shows a functional problem clearly. The buyer does not need to guess whether the glove is leaking. The bubbles give a visible result.

What GD Inspection Would Check on Site

For a disposable nitrile glove order, GD Inspection would randomly select samples from different cartons according to the inspection plan.
The inspector would first check the packing condition and basic appearance. Then selected gloves would be taken out for the leakage check. Each glove would be inflated, immersed in water and observed for bubbles.
If bubbles appear, the inspector would record the defect as a leakage issue and take photos or video where possible. A short video is often useful because bubbles are easier to show in motion than in a still photo.
The report should also mention where the leakage appeared, such as fingertip, palm area, side area or cuff area.
This check is not complicated, but it must be done carefully. If the glove is not inflated enough, a small leak may not show. If the glove is squeezed too hard, the result may not reflect normal handling. The purpose is to reveal leakage, not to damage the glove during the check.

Why Samples Should Come from Different Cartons

Pinholes and breakage may not appear evenly across the order.
One carton may be fine. Another carton may contain gloves from a different production time or packing run. The problem may appear more often in one size, one lot or one section of the finished goods.
That is why samples should be pulled from different cartons instead of only from one open box.
If leakage is found in several selected samples, the buyer can ask the factory to check whether the issue is limited to one lot or whether a wider sorting or replacement is needed.
For disposable gloves, this matters because the quantity is usually large. Once the goods arrive overseas, checking piece by piece is slow, messy and often unrealistic.

What the Buyer Can Decide Before Shipment

Finding leaking gloves before shipment gives the importer room to act.
The buyer can ask the factory to replace affected stock, check the same production lot again, or hold shipment until the factory provides a clear corrective action. If the problem appears only in one carton range or one size, the factory can focus the recheck there first.
If the issue is found after delivery, the options are much worse. The gloves may already be in distribution. Customers may open boxes, use several pieces and report leakage later. At that point, it is difficult to know whether the problem affects a few gloves or the whole batch.
For disposable nitrile gloves, a small hole is not a small defect.
If air can escape during a simple water check, the buyer needs to know before the gloves leave the factory.
